Meet Zelda! Part 4
Did you see Part 3?
Chris, Aubie, and Zelda in Scott, Louisiana
We woke up in Scott, Louisiana at the Lafayette KOA Holiday after our first night in the new rig, Zelda, feeling pretty good; although the KOA wasn't too far away from the 10, the large trees blocked out most of the freeway noise, so it was a fairly restful night. Our next reservation was for two nights at the San Antonio/Alamo KOA Holiday, 415 miles away, so after cleaning up and putting together a light breakfast, we hit the road.

Arlene was a single axle rig,
so this was a new thing for us
Bye, Scott!
Your boudin was excellent!
Scott isn't too far from the LA/TX state line, so before long, we were back in Texas once again (total nights on this trip spent in Texas: 4; total nights spent NOT in Texas: 2). We took a break at the welcome station, as it offered some great photo opportunities:

Back in the truck, we finished the drive to San Antonio without issue, taking food/restroom/stretch breaks every two hours, and passing through Houston uneventfully. We made it to the KOA around 4pm and checked in, prior to being escorted to our spot, site E-1, via golfcart (we just followed the cart - they didn't tow us in or anything, although that would have been something to see). After getting settled, we decided it was time to find dinner, so we went in search of a nearby barbeque place well reviewed on Yelp. As it turned out, it was too well reviewed, and we decided not to wait in the gigantic line already formed outside. We tried our second BBQ option and also struck out - it was closed this Sunday night. Getting hungrier and hungrier, we figured hey whatever and went back to Yelp to find something - anything - close by. We ended up at Tank's Pizza, and we were so glad we did!
The folks at Tank's greeted us immediately upon walking in the door and were so friendly and welcoming. Snagging a table, we ordered a salad and pizza (as well as two beers), and while we waited for our food to arrive, we watched the Cowboys beat the Rams (lots of cheering in the bar for that one) and the Cardinals sabotage their game against the Eagles (groaning for that one, but only from our table - we were the only ones that cared either way). Once our salad and pizza hit the table, we made quick work of each, taking no prisoners and leaving no leftovers. Fully satisfied, we settled up and thanked the folks at Tank's for a great, completely unplanned, meal. For their part, they asked to take our picture to put us on their Facebook page:
Before heading back to the KOA, we made a quick stop at yet another Wal-Mart for a random set of things we'd either forgotten before or realized we needed (hand soap, more RV blocks, etc), but it wasn't too long before we reunited with Zelda, spending the rest of the evening in our lounge chairs watching Friday night's episode of The Great British Baking Show (the horrifying Mexico outing, in case you're keeping track).
When we planned this trip, we thought it might be nice to take a rest day around this point; after four straight days of driving, not being in the truck for hours at a time sounded nice, and we could spend some time seeing San Antonio and enjoying its amazing food and culture. We started out our Monday morning strolling the greenway path that ran right behind the KOA, and before too long, we were cleaned up and heading into town.

I'd spent some time in San Antonio with family just a few months prior, and I figured Chris and I should focus our efforts in the Pearl area of the city. We didn't want to spend all day touristing, and we've both seen the more historical parts of downtown, including the Alamo and Riverwalk. I'd really enjoyed the Pearl on my visit, and Chris had never been, so it was settled. We arrived a bit early for our lunch reservation at Supper, so we wandered around, peeking in shops and the like.
I loved this shop when Mom and I visited,
and it was still great!

I was craving non-meat and cheese options
by this point in the trip.
Lunch was a delicious, relaxed affair, and after we finished up, I showed Chris around the Hotel Emma, the original Pearl Brewery. I'd found another brewery about a mile away, along the Riverwalk, so we strolled for a bit, enjoying the pleasant weather (a bit warm, but not too bad).

Brewery visiting and strolling completed, we made a quick stop to fill up the gas tank on the way back (where we witnessed a very unexciting fender bender), and before too much longer, we returned to the KOA and Zelda. We cranked up the AC and left it running to cool things down while we took a dip in the pool (great pool, but VERY cold), followed by a quick shower and a glorious nap. Post-nap, it was time to run another load of laundry at the KOA's facilities while watching Sunday's F1 race in the camper. We took a pre-dinner meander around the campground then made some quesadillas and watched Andor as our evening entertainment (having a tv in the rig is a new experience for us, and we're enjoying it, as you can tell).
"What do you want, lady?"
Making friends
Full and tuckered out from our day in the city, we hit the hay, planning for yet another early departure and long drive on the morrow!
Later!
Amy
