Hey folks! I suppose this was going to happen eventually, so here we go! I hope to keep you all entertained and informed as to the events currently happening in the life of the Olsen family, or at least the two human and three canine Olsens currently living in our house. No promises as to the quantity or quality of posting, as there is a very good chance this whole venture could be abandoned tomorrow - it's entirely possible. Enjoy!

Did you read Part 3 ? We're officially on our Way! Despite our room/house being remarkably comfortable at the Myrtle Bank Guest House in Fort William, I was up way too early (probably just excited about starting our walk on the West Highland Way ).  Letting Chris sleep, I made some tea in the full kitchen and sat in the upstairs loft, watching the sky get lighter and the boats on Loch Linnhe sail by until he woke up.  Our taxi, arranged by Mark at Mickledore Travel , would pick us up at 9:30, so we spent some time arranging and packing up our gear, and we lingered over breakfast. Scots Wha Hae! Part 2A - That Glasgow Grin

Did you read Part 1 ? Someone found himself another flat white! Sacked out from our harrowing day of travel, we slept well at the City Apartments in the Kelvingrove area of Glasgow.  As we slowly started our Saturday morning, we made tea in our handy kitchenette, and eventually, we got ourselves dressed and wandered outside to greet the windy day.  While it wasn't as crazy as the afternoon before, the gusts were still hitting 40-50 mph, so we decided rain jackets were the better choice over umbrellas.  A quick stroll down the block confirmed this assumption: Poor buddy never stood a chance We headed for a nearby local co-op/flower shop/cafe, Roots, Fruits, & Flowers to find another injection of caffeine and some breakfast.  I initially put Roots on a short list for Saturday morning breakfast, as they opened earlier than other nearby spots; unfortunately, Storm Amy shattered one of their cafe's windows, so they had to delay opening their doors while they dealt w...

Smoky Mountain Rain - Part 1

Just some father/daughter bonding at the cabin in Townsend Howdy, all!  In case I haven't mentioned it on the blog yet, in early October, Chris and I are heading to Scotland (my third trip there, his second), and part of our adventures will include hiking the "Highlands" section of the West Highland Way .  We're working with a baggage transfer company that will move our luggage from one night's lodging to the next (no camping/backpacking for us this time, I'm a bit cranky for that), and we'll be completing around 36 miles of trekking over three consecutive days.  To ensure we're ready, we've been gradually increasing our trail mileage, and to further help us prepare, the week of the 4th of July found us packing up the girls and heading to a cabin in the Great Smoky Mountains .  Our plan was to hike three days in a row, to simulate our upcoming time on the Way, and the Smokies gave us plenty of trail options from which to choose.
