Do Work, Son - Part 2

Did you read Part 1?

Bea (and her giant nose) say hi!

When last we blogged, we'd made it to San Mateo Campground within San Onofre Beach State Park, and Chris, Zoe, Bea, and I were settling into the spot where we'd be working for the next week (well, Chris and I would - these girls don't do sh*t).  We woke up on Sunday morning, ready to enjoy a non-travel, non-work day in the area, and we started it out by strolling the girlies around the campground, then making breakfast and watching the Australian Grand Prix F1 race.

Time for adventure breakfast!

"Hey, I want to finish watching Danny Ricc win the race!"
(I didn't have the heart to tell her...)

Snuggling on the couch with everyone

Post-race, Chris went for a short hike out to Trestles Beach (from our campsite, it was about 1.8 miles one way, and while the trail had a few ups and downs, it was easy to find and a nice stroll); for our part, the puppers and I did yoga and watched the most recent episode of RuPaul's Drag Race.  Girl time, indeed!

A few shots from Chris' hike:

Trestles Beach - the nasty riptides and strong breakers make it a great surf beach

Looking back toward the campground, over Christianitos Creek

After getting the pack back together and having chicken salad wraps for lunch, we all hopped in the truck and drove to the nearby San Onofre Bluffs Campground.  While camping hadn't yet started for the season, the trails to the beach were open, and dogs were allowed on Trails 1 and 6.  We picked Trail 6 and started down toward the water with the maniacs.

The trail from the cliffs to the beach had washed out a bit from all the rains,
but we still picked our way down

We caught the low tide.
This beach wasn't the best for doggos - lots of rocks, albeit smooth ones

Zoe and I still had fun running into (and away from) the waves

Attempting to take family beach photos - we're missing someone...

She just wanted to be back in the water.

On the way back to the campground, we passed the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS), which reminded me of this important piece of literature we received upon checking in:

Worrisome

It's a shame the acronym didn't work out to BOOBS.
I mean, really.

After a quick run to Wal-Mart, it was back to site 28 for showers (we tried out the token-operated bathhouse stalls at the campground to avoid filling our gray tank, and they worked great), snacks, and Battlebots!

Having a great time looking out the back window

Dinner was marinated tilapia and charred broccoli on the flat-top

Chris bonding with the new kiddo

We crashed out around 9 and woke up to our Monday morning alarm at 6am - it was time to put this "working remotely" thing to the test!

To ensure we had some peace and quiet when we started work at 7, we took the kiddos for a stroll up to the nearby amphitheater and just a small bit of the way up the trail to Trestles Beach (that Chris navigated on Sunday).  After making coffee, it was time to log in!

I don't know why this picture is so blurry - too much caffeine, maybe?
We didn't end up using the big monitor, for what it's worth.

Chris' video meeting spot - you can only see the wall behind him, so it works out well.
Zoe is impressed, clearly.

At lunchtime, we took the girls on another meander up the trail (they need several strolls per day when they don't have an entire house to romp around in), then enjoyed our chicken pasta salad outside on the picnic table in the sunshine.

Out for some lunchtime exercise

Tons of wildlife in this area, but the most prevalent were bunnies and squirrels.
This guy came every day and sat right here on this post.

By mid-afternoon, it was starting to get windy, so we hunkered down inside for the rest of the day (other than a few potty breaks for the doggos), enjoying bean and sweet potato burritos for dinner.

The clouds, blowing in!

Part of said hunkering - we're watching Top Chef here.
Zoe has some thoughts on the wisdom of cooking risotto
during Quickfire challenges.
"It's not worth it, folks!"

Before too long, it was off to bed for all of us, ready for another day at the remote office!

Later!

Amy
