Digital Nomad Summer - Part 6
Here's Part 5.
When last we blogged, Chris, the girls, and I met my Mom in Florence, Oregon, and she and I started our mother-daughter walkabout!
Post wine tasting near Eugene
The first full day of our trip started at our Airbnb in Florence, visiting with Angel, the resident doggo on site.
Although little dogs aren't always my jam, she was really sweet.
Getting underway around 9:30am, we headed north on the 101 toward our first stop, the Hecate Head Lighthouse and State Scenic Viewpoint. The main parking lot was down below, and you hiked about a 1/2 mile upward to the base of the lighthouse. It wasn't too steep, and the views were more than worth any sweat equity we'd put in.
Lots of cool bridges in this part of the country -
this one is northbound on the 101, heading into old town Florence

After finishing our hike back to the car, we spent some time wandering around the beach itself, which was fun - the water was super cold!
Back on the road and heading north once more, our next stop was Rogue Brewing in Newport, OR. Although Rogue has brewpubs all over now, this was the original location, and it's still the main production facility. We didn't do a tour (while we love tours of all sorts, we didn't want to spend the time on this trip), but we had lunch and enjoyed some samplers - everything was delicious.
Rogue is one of my favorite breweries, and their sense of humor is a major part of that -
the truck reads, "Rogue Mash Transit"

Post-lunch, we cut inland and drove toward Corvallis and Eugene, stopping at Silvan Ridge Winery for a wine tasting break. I did their blended flight (a white, a pink, and two reds), while Mom went for the Oregon reds, including a few pinot options; we were in the southern Willamette Valley, after all!
While you do see lots of grapes growing in this area
(Willamette Valley and all), these are Christmas tree farms
My flight - I snagged a bottle of the Pinot Gris
Cheers!
We pulled into our cute little Airbnb in Roseburg, Oregon around 5pm, and after unloading and cooling down a bit in the AC (it was in the high-80s when we arrived), we wandered over to a nearby shopping plaza for an awesome dinner at Shanti's Indian Restaurant.
For his part, Chris spent a pretty normal day with the girls; while the internet options in our campsite at William Tugman State Park were still giving him some troubles, he found an acceptable range of solutions (it helped that he was the only person using the bandwidth while I was gone).

Enjoying the glorious weather with the girls after work -
the highs were in the low 70s
Chris also filled me in that Bea is learning to play "the long game," as we call it in our house. A bit of explanation - Zoe is our clever girl, and she's always out-gamed the other dogs in our house. For example, if she wanted to sleep in a spot August had claimed (when she was with us), she'd pretend to get all excited about something, running to the door (for example); once Auggie followed, Zoe would circle back around and hop in the still-warm, now vacant dog bed. Well, payback is hell, kiddo, because Bea's been learning from her big sister; Chris said Zoe was chewing on a particular bone, and Bea wanted it. Instead of pushing her way in and potentially getting nipped, Bea ran to the door of the camper, hopping up and down; when Zoe followed, Bea grabbed the bone and started chewing away.
"Dad, what the fork?!?!?!"
On the next blog, Mom and I head to Crater Lake National Park, which was absolutely incredible; Chris and the girls remain in Lakeside, enjoying their time together.
Later!
Amy
