Running with the Bullies - Part 3

Don't miss Part 2!

It's bully time!

In our last blog entry, we were halfway through the day at the Bull Terrier Club of America's Silverwood dog show, petting lots of fur-kids and hanging out with Uncle Bill, Aunt Mary Alice, and Kathryn.

As we drew closer to lunchtime, the initial rounds of judging in the mini bully ring finished up, and we relocated to the main ring, home to the standard size dogs.  Just as there are way more white dogs than non-white ones, standard sized bullies are more popular by far than minis; their judging was taking far longer, and it was running a few hours behind schedule.  No problem for us - it gave us time to pet more puppers (this whole weekend I felt like the I've Pet That Dog kiddo)!

This is Cersei - she was a sweet girl who was happy to have us love on her.
I asked her Mom if she lived up to her name, and she said, oh yes.

Cersei was being too noisy while other dogs were showing, so her Mom attempted to quiet her down.

"But Mom, I'm having SUCH a good time!"

The show also had several vendors, selling all sorts of Bull Terrier related items
(we have lots of glitter in this house)

Time for a quick play session between judging

We really wanted to see the rescue parade, where rescue bullies get a chance to romp around the ring, but the calm atmosphere was doing a number on us, and after the second set of white standard bully girls came out for their time in the spotlight (each judging session took ~45 minutes), we headed back to Zelda for a nap.

This buddy was wearing his UT bandana - the Vols were playing the Gators later that day.

After a quick slumber, we visited Flanagan Bros for another pint; this time, we had a chance to chat with a couple sitting nearby who'd also been to the dog show that morning and who also owned a bully girl.  The lady mentioned how nice it was to see that the professionally trained show dogs did the same ridiculous things as the at-home counterparts that lived with normal people like us; she also showed me an amazing video of her kiddo's favorite toy - a plastic gallon water jug filled with a few rocks and tied to a rope, which her bully would grab and swing around in circles until she made herself dizzy and fell down.  This breed, folks - they're a special type of nuts, and they're not for everyone (but they are for us!).

Camper pint!
This was mine - Chris may or may not have spilled part of his down the back of the
theater seats/couch in the rig.  We'll be cleaning that up until next year.

We changed, then hopped in the truck and headed south - after a few days of everyone coming up to Kingsport to visit us, it was time to reciprocate and meet them in Johnson City!  Although Kathryn stayed home due to not feeling well, Uncle Bill and Aunt Mary Alice met us for dinner at the Watauga Brewing Company, a newer spot owned by good friends of theirs.  The Brew Co is super neat - a brewery/social house on the first floor, a rooftop beer garden/bar, and in the middle, Courses, a fine dining restaurant.  Our reservation was for Courses, and we're so glad we went!  The food was delicious, the service was friendly and helpful, and of course, the company was outstanding!

Cheers!

My main course - ravioli with mushrooms

We chatted for awhile longer, then hugged everyone and headed back to Kingsport and the rig.  The brewery was hopping when we returned (live music plus the Tennessee/Florida football game on tv), and we chilled in the rig for awhile before crashing into bed once more.

Sunday morning dawned chilly, and Chris ran to Starbucks to grab a quick caffeine/breakfast fix while I showered and started packing things up for our trip home.  We pulled out of the parking lot around 9:30 and made our first stop of the trip back at Cumberland Gap National Historic Park's Visitor Center for a lunch break, as we attempted to do on the way down on Friday.

Out of VA and into TN (again)!

Back in the Bluegrass!

Lunchtime!

Stopping in Corbin at the Love's travel center, we dumped our tanks, and then it was onto the final push homeward.  We dropped the rig off at the storage center (it's living there for a few months while we have construction done at our place), unloaded at home, then headed to Lex to reclaim our girlies from their weekend retreat.  By 4:30 everyone was back together, bathed, and the laundry was underway!  What a great trip!

Clean, snuggly babies!

Thanks, Kingsport!

Later!

Amy
