Stitch Fix Numero Uno!

As I mentioned in last week’s blog post, I’m trying out Stitch Fix, an online personal shopping service.  My first fix arrived in the mail this week, and I’m so excited to share it with everyone!  Hooray, new clothes!

Stitch Fix sends you five items in each shipment, and although I mentioned accessories were a-okay, my first box contained all clothing.

My first item was the Pascarelli Embellished Collar Blouse by Collective Concepts.  I loved the color of this one but wasn’t completely sold on the collar detail.  It was cute, but it wasn’t really my bag, and for $68, I figured if I didn’t love it, I wasn’t keeping it.

My second item was the 41 Hawthorn (Stitch Fix’s house brand of clothing) Ivy Abstract Chevron Tab-Sleeve Blouse.  I loved this one!  It fits pretty well into my existing style, and it features most of the colors I often wear – black, blue, and white (whitish in this case).  Even though it was $68, it looked like it was pretty well made, so I kept this one.

One of the neato things about Stitch Fix (one of the many, truly) is that each item comes with a card with suggested styling ideas.  I think this will be really helpful to me, since my default “styling” involves checking to make sure it works with gray or black work pants and blue jeans.

The third item was the Mystree Evander Striped Lace Printed Tank.  I have to admit to not loving this one when I pulled it out of the box.  The weight seemed nice and it seemed well made, but the lace detail made me initially turn up my nose.  However, one of my requirements to myself was to try everything on in the box, and I’m glad I did.  It fit well and for $38, seems like it will be a good addition to my closet (living in Arizona, I wear tanks almost year-round, so they get a lot of use).

I thought it was neat that the styling card showed this tank with a red skirt; we ended up in Sam’s Club this weekend and I found a great pair of red pants (for $17!  Holla!).  I’ll have to try them out together…

One of the items I specifically mentioned in my Style Profile on the Stitch Fix site was that I’ve always had trouble finding a blazer that fit me well, but I’d love to own one.  Thus, my stylist sent me one in this package, and I was excited about it; it’s the Benson ¾ Ruched Sleeve Blazer.  I really loved the color, but the fit wasn’t great when I buttoned the front button.  For $78, I wanted it to fit really well, so I sent this one back.

Oh, sad face!

My final item, and the one I was the most hesitant about, was a pair of Kut from the Kloth Baxley Zipper Detail Skinny Jeans.  Over the past few years, I’ve lost about 20 pounds (it’s crazy to think about that), but the idea of anything cut “skinny” still makes me a bit nervous.  I’ve read other Stitch Fix reviews online, and they keep mentioning how comfy skinny jeans are, which made me raise an eyebrow, Phil Keoghan-style.

However, I have to admit the reviews are right!  These pants were lovely – soft and (dare I say) really pleasant to wear.  I had Chris do the rear check to make sure things looked okay from that angle, and he verified they were.  Score!  For $88, they seemed a little expensive, but I loved them, so I figured I’d bite the bullet and go for it.

Style card!

So, overall, I ended up keeping three items and sending two back.  After taking out the $20 styling fee (which I pay no matter what), the bill was $174.  Since I’m pretty frugal normally (unless we’re talking about traveling or eating out), I had a mini heart attack, but overall, I’m glad I bought these three.  I think they’ll be with me for awhile, and I can’t wait for my next Fix!

If you’re interested in trying out the service, here’s my referral link:  https://www.stitchfix.com/referral/3223908.  I’ll earn $25 for each person that signs up using my link, and you’ll – well – you’ll get crazy good style karma, I’m sure.

Later!

Amy
