Vegas, baby, Vegas – Part 2
Need to catch up on Part 1?
When we last checked in with our intrepid group of Vegas
explorers, we had just gone to bed after a night of revelry. Too much revelry it turned out, as
several members of our pack weren’t feeling too awesome the next morning,
myself very much included. As is my
tendency, I woke up super early and went for a jog around the Strip to avoid
waking anyone else up for another few hours. Afterward, I chilled out at one of the Starbucks inside the Luxor* and
read the paper, and when I returned back to the room, a few of the ladies were
starting to move around.
We got ourselves ready, then headed out onto the Strip, to
stroll down toward Mon Ami Gabi, our lunch destination, in the Paris
hotel. Mon Ami Gabi is this cute little
French bistro with excellent food, and it’s one of my favorite places in town;
I always try to eat there when I’m visiting Vegas. It’s all dark and Parisian inside (I assume, never having been to actual Paris), but
there’s also a patio that overlooks the Strip, so the people watching
opportunities are golden. It was a bit
too warm to sit on the patio itself, but we had a table in the atrium area, so
we had the best of both worlds. Everyone
seemed to really enjoy their food, and it was awesome to eat there again.
After lunch, we headed to the Bellagio, to check out their
conservatory, which houses an ever-changing display of flora and, this time,
fauna as well. In addition to the
gorgeous plants, this time, the conservatory had a massive birdhouse in the
middle of the space and koi ponds near the back of the area.

I don’t know who is
photo-bombing whom in this picture…
After basking in the beauty in the conservatory, we headed
around the corner to Jean Phillipe Patisserie, where we longingly gazed at the
chocolate fountain and I bought some treats for Chris and Mom.
Noms!
We wandered the Strip for awhile, stopping for dessert at a
Wolfgang Puck place in Crystals, and upscale mall between the Aria and
Cosmopolitan resorts, then heading back to our room for naptime.**
Well, I see two sets of penguin feet, but only one penguin...
What the hell happened here?
It's not a real girls' trip if you don't find funny hats at some point in time.
After
naptime was over, it was time to get fancied up and head to Nine Fine Irishmen
for dinner, inside the New York, New York casino. As it turned out, it was Restaurant Week in
Las Vegas while we were there, so Trisha and I ordered the three-course menu,
complete with apple tarts for dessert!
Erin and Taira didn’t go quite that all out, but their food was
fantastic, too.
Let’s eat!
Hooray, foods!
We had planned to stay and listen to live music for awhile,
but I for one was still not feeling well and truly just wanted to head back to the
room. As it turned out, the other ladies
were dragging as well, and we headed back to the room. We made a quick stop at a slot machine, so I could do my traditional, "put a dollar in a slot machine, then cash out with 10 cents left, so I can use the paper as a bookmark for the next year" Vegas routine.
Ta da! Ten cents!
Another quick stop found us at the convenience store inside the Excalibur, picking up some ginger ale.
Ginger ale, you are my only friend!
Our room in the Luxor had its very own hot tub, so Erin and
I jumped in, determined to make the most of the room and its amenities.
Just a little hot tub

We stayed up for a bit longer, just hanging out and
chatting, and then we all drifted off to sleep. The next morning, we all started moving
around, packed up, and headed back home, Trisha and I via plane and Erin and
Taira via car. We had a great time!
Thanks again to Erin and Taira for letting me crash their
party and to Trisha for being my travel buddy!
Thanks to all three ladies for your contributions to the pictures on the
blog, as well!
Later!
Amy
* Seriously, there
were THREE Starbucks in the Luxor, the lobby of which is not all that big. From the front desk, the directions to the
elevator nearest our room went, “go past this Starbucks, then take a left at
the next Starbucks…”
** So very necessary when you get to be our age.
